Bees from Wageningen University on accommodation

In the context of building up immunity against the varroa mite, Lowgardens has entered into a partnership with the University of Wageningen.

As of today, 15 beehives have been placed. These hives are the control group for the group placed elsewhere where a natural resistance is attempted to breed against a virus that carries the Varroa mite. In the coming year, the 15 hives will feast on all the tasty nectar that is released around and around the Natural Outdoor Plantstore, in the nursery and in the ethnobotanical garden. A group has also been housed in Arboretum Kalmthout. This trial was carried out by Wageningen University in collaboration with the University of Ghent.
